St Plegmund's Well
St Plegmund's Well submitted by TimPrevett : Just east of Chester, at the east end of Mickle Trafford sits St Plegmund's Well. It's down a no-through road not far from St Peter's Church (where we parked for a short walk back along the lane). Very obvious, and still venerated by clouties, it's a pleasantly surprising addition to the layers of history in the area. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Do have a peep around St Peter's Churchyard if visiting here. At the immediate eastend of the church exterior, there is a raised tomb, with a skeleton engraved on the north and south sides... spend some time comparing the two, as there are differences, and we thought it told a fascinating story.

It's surprising what can turn up in your own stomping ground if you have a bit of a dig around online. Plegmund was actually Archbishop of Canterbury from 890 to 914... and here he was hanging out just east of Chester, with a well dedicated to him.
