TheCaptain visited on 18th Jul 2005 - their rating: Amb: 3 Access: 4 There are a couple of dolmens marked here on my map, but when I get here there is a sign and a parking area, and before I even get out of the van I can see four dolmens ! In all there are remains of about a dozen dolmens here, many of which have been recently restored. It is a pity about the busy road and the open fields, which make for low ambience scores for an otherwise very good place.

Monpalais dolmen 4
Monpalais dolmen 4 submitted by thecaptain : A superb bit of restoration, this large Angevin like dolmen sits in an oval cairn, with faced walling around the outside. (Vote or comment on this photo)
The necropolis of Monpalais is to be found a couple of kilometres north of the village of Taizé near to the hamlet of Maranzais.

There are a couple of dolmens marked here on the ign map, and when I got here there was a sign and a parking area, and before I even got out of the van I could see four dolmens !

In all there are remains of about at least seven very varied dolmens here, most of which have been recently (2005) restored. It is a pity about the busy road and the open fields, which make for low ambience scores for an otherwise very good place.

Please note that the individual numbering used here on the portal is just the order in which I visited the dolmens that I found in July 2005, and is not based upon any official numbering system that I know of.

The geographic coordinates for this main site page are for the car park.
