Round Barrow in Cheshire
Glead Hill Cob, also known as ‘Houndslow’, lies four miles to the north-east of the Seven Lows. In 1879 a Mr John Harrison of the New Pale was levelling this large tumulus for the foundations of a house when ‘ten or twelve large urns (filled with burnt bones) were met with’. Unfortunately the urns fell to pieces upon removal, but a small incense cup did survive. A few of the relics within the urns were ‘rescued by Mr Harrison from the workmen’ including the incense cup, barbed flint arrowheads ‘of good type’, a flint scraper, a fragment of a flint knife and a bronze pin. These were all photographed by William Shone in the early 20th century.
The incense cup is described as being ‘2¾ inches across its base, 3¼ inches high, 5¼ inches across the mouth and 15 7/8 inches in circumference at the widest part’.
