Standing Stone (Menhir) in Østfold
This site (that is actually called bautastein, Norwegian for standing stone) consists of two standing stones, 7 round barrows and one round stone setting. The barrows are small and low in the terrain and cannot be found due to the tight forest and brush. The stone setting was also impossible to find because of all the small trees growing very tight in and around it. The two standing stones were however easiy to find.
The largest standing stone is standing just 1 metre away from the small dirt road going through the site. It is 3,5 in height, around 1,30 wide at the base and around 0,5 metre at the top and around 40cm thick. It gets thinner at the top.
The small standing stone is just around 80cm in height, 10cm thick and around 50cm wide. The top is flat, suggesting the stone could originally have been higher.
The round barrows are from 6 to 10 metres in height and from 0,5 to 1 metre in height. They are in a thick young forest and are almost impossible to see. The stone setting is also so overgrown it could not be found, according to kulturminnesøk it consists of 6, originally 7 stones.
