The Butte de Goassec'h is a newly discovered large chambered cairn to the south of Carhaix-Plouguer. Currently (2019) being excavated, it has been rich in discoveries with large megalithic architecture containing 3 Dolmens that have not been open for 4000 years, and is being compared to Barnenez!

The excavation site is not open to the public.

The archeologist in charge of the excavations is Florian Cousseau. "The results are beyond what we could expect, can't wait for the next few years!"

Large Neolithic Cairn discovered in Central Brittany by Andy B on Thursday, 02 September 2021
(User Info | Send a Message)
A new article about this site:
A new discovery in central Brittany which has left the archos somewhat excited. The site is near Carhaix, and c14 test of charcoal found just above the natural suggests a date around 4,800 BCE.

Excavation of the earth cover has revealed a stone structure similar to Barnenez on the coast opposite Roscoff, which as probably everyone knows is colossal! The new find is of a structure some 5m (18ft) high and 90m (300ft) long with several separate burial chambers inside. There's a good rundown of the dig in the Brittany daily paper, Le Telegramme, with pics.

There are also some links to other current digs of Neolithic sites - all good stuff!

With thanks to Jeremy for the info and comments.
