Magura Uroiului is an ancient site located on shores of the Mures river, Romania. It shows signs of settlement dating back to the neolithic Cucuteni period starting in 4800 BC. Later it was a Dacian settlement. On the Roman era it was used as a query for bronze, silver, and rock.

At the site, the surrounding earth wall can still be seen and recently archaeologists helped by students from US dug a unique grave in Romania where only remains of women and children have been found. The grave is located in the neolithic layer under the Dacian and Iron/Bronze Age layers. Among the skeletons, animal remains have been found all of which are anatomically linked, meaning the animals have not been dismembered before being put in the graveyard. The mystery of the missing men still puzzles archaeologists.

The earth wall shows signs of burning on its weakest point located on flat ground. This may seem to indicate that the place has been besieged and the palisade has been set on fire.

Pottery and arrow tips from the Cucuteni period can still be found here and archaeologists are actively working on this site.

I'm wondering if there was any sign of trauma on the buried women and children. My wild guess would be that the village was attacked whilst the men were away, and the women and children slain, but it doesn't really make sense due to the burial. Unless the returning men found, buried them and abandoned the settlement. Sorry, just thinking aloud, lol, but it is a really good mystery.
