A 1.5m tall Celtic (4th century BCE) burial pillar. The original pillar (pictured) is now situated in the LVR Rheinisches LandesMuseum Bonn. There is a copy of the pillar in the village square (at this location).

The original was found in the 17th century in the cemetery in Pfalzfeld. The pillar was probably double as tall as today. The extant pillar is sculptured and covered with many ornaments (like flames and leaves) and is shows four human heads with the typical celtic "leaf-crowns".

The Pfalzfeld Column (Pfalzfelder Säule) dates from the 5th or 4th century BC and was found in a cemetery in Pfalzfeld. Its original position is unknown, but it probably stood on a Celtic hill grave. The four human masks on the column and the hemispheric base are well-known symbols from the Mediterranean area; they protect the bur... (Vote or comment on this photo)
