A wonderful kerb cairn and tumulus with a stone row between them. There is also a ring cairn at this North Yorkshire site.

Update November 2019 by Anne T: This alignment, which runs from SE 83015 98115 to SE 83030 98138, is featured on the Stone Rows of Great Britain website - see their entry for Simon Howe, which includes a description, a plan of the row and its associated cairn, photographs of the alignment, the individual stones and the kerbed cairn, access information and a list of online resources for more information.

The row is also recorded as Pastscape Monument No. 62859 and scheduled as Historic England List ID 1021297 (Simon Howe: a round cairn on Goathland Moor, two associated round barrows, a standing stone and a stone alignment).

The SRoGB also gives a link to the The Smell of Water: Simon Howe which includes photographs and descriptions.

The original barrow consisted of a central cairn surrounded by a circle of kerb stones. Over time, the cairn has been eroded away leaving the kerb stones and a bare platform, the stones from the cairn were used to construct a rough shelter and hiker’s cairn which was used as a beacon for walkers undertaking the Lyke Wake Walk.

English Heritage have recently funded work to protect the monument, the shelter was dismantled and rebuilt as a central cairn. The team also surveyed the monument and re-erected one of the fallen stones of the nearby stone alignment. An account of the restoration work and a copy of the survey can be found here
