TheCaptain saw from a distance on 16th May 2005 Another big obvious wood covered tumulus up on the hills above the village. But to get to this one would have meant quite a long walk from anywhere I could have parked and there was no obvious way to it so I did not bother as there are many others to explore locally.
Extraordinary ! Although this burial chamber lost it's capstone it is an extraordinary thing I saw last sunday afternoon . This dolmen is left in it's tumulus but it had been examined and the capstone had deceased but now we can see :
It had a door between a 7 metres long corridor and the "cell" . The "cell" got a very good constuction with it;s vertical squared stones and well adjusted .
This door could be pivot on itself and maybe the axe was input in a gap of the capstone .
The "cell" is 4 metres long and 2.2 m wide, oriented along an axis NNW-SSE (300°). The corridor 7 m long is oriented along an axis quasi N-S about 345° . The tumulus had 20 metres of diameter and 4 m of height.
A recent article in press suggest it is the unique monument of this type in Europe. The different burial chamber of this regionshould be the area of future research.
I am so disappointed for "The Captain" who visited this site without go on this point .
