Langcombe Brook 4
Langcombe Brook 4 submitted by thecaptain : The cairn is about 8 metres in diameter, with remains of a kerb circle to be seen around the outside. Three slabs of the central kist are in place, and a capstone covering half of it is still in place. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Several cairns and kists, and some remains of ancient settlement are to be found along the Langcombe Brook, which feeds into the river Plym just above the Drizzlecombe complex. Many of these can be found fairly easily along the sides of the brook, but it’s a long walk from anywhere in remote southern Dartmoor.

Just over the stream from Grim’s Grave the remains of Cairn 4 and its kist can be seen at SX61256630, and is easy to reach. The cairn is about 8 metres in diameter, with remains of a kerb circle to be seen around the outside. Three slabs of the central kist are in place, and a capstone covering half of it is still in place. However, its all a bit disappointing after Grim’s Grave.

Update October 2019: This cairn is featured on the Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks (PDW) website - see their entries for the Grim's Grave (S) Platform Cairn Circle and Cist and their Guide to the Langcombe Brook & Deadman's Bottom Cists.

The cairn is also recorded as Pastscape Monument No. 441656 and as MDV5126 (CIST in the Parish of Shaugh Prior) on the Devon and Dartmoor HER.

This site is also scheduled as part of Historic England List ID 1012282 (One of several cairns with cists south of Langcombe Brook).
