This superb menhir is situated in a wood just after Lavalade hamlet. It's a huge block of flint from 2.70 to 2.80 metres height from approximately 1.50 metre in the ground. Its width is 2 metres and its thickness from at least 1 metre.

At the beginning of the wood, turn right for only 30 metres.

A legend tells that the devil left fallen from very high and it penetrated the earth deeply.
Another legend tells that it would be perhaps the center of a whole of enclosures made up of blocks inserted in the ground.

Peyregude menhir
Peyregude menhir submitted by paulcall : This large standing stone is found to the north of Lavalade village, from where there is a signpost to Peyregude. After driving past a few houses the stone is found in the first woodland reached along the road. It is situated in the centre of a square depression. There may have been an attempt to remove it in the past. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Peyregude menhir submitted by paulcall : The standing stone is surrounded by many smaller stones, which together with the menhir may have formed a more complex structure previously.

Les "locaux" parlent de Cromlech. D'autres pierres sont éparses pas loin mais non en relation avec le monument mégalithique. Donc, c'est un menhir isolé.
