Ancient Mine, Quarry or other Industry in Lombardia

Marmitte dei Giganti is the name given to the glacial potholes excavated in the bedrock of the Park by the erosive power of water.
A place of natural beauty, this open air museum also contains many of the traces left through the centuries by the inhabitants of this region.
Along the paths, on boulders, on the rock faces of ancient quarries, in small caves, a variety of engravings can be seen: cups, geometrical shapes, nine men's morris, then crosses, initials, dates. Somebody even took the trouble of drawing a castle...
The Park is situated on the outskirts of Chiavenna (Sondrio Province), the picturesque town can be easily reached by car or by train (line Milano - Chiavenna, 2 hours).
