Maiori Nuraghe
Maiori Nuraghe submitted by AlexHunger : Nuraghe just outside of Tempio Pausania in Sardinia. Entrance. This is a compound Nuraghe with two small tholoses next to each other, separated by a coridor and the foundation of a now damaged tholos on the top. There is also a keep on the back side. It is also called Majori Nuraghe. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Nuraghe in Sardegna

Bronze age fortified tower built on natural rock formation on side of hill with 2 smaller tholoses separated by passageway and foundation for third tholos on top. There is also a walled courtyard protecting the stairwell upstairs. So called corridor or Proto Nuraghe. 476 Meters Altitude.
Additional information submitted by Drew Parsons in October 2010:
Dating back to the Early Bronze Age (around 1600 BC) this nuraghe is one of the most important in the region. It is a single massive tower constructed from huge granite blocks set on a natural rock outcrop. As such it has features of both a corridor nuraghe and an ogive vaulted nuraghe. From the entrance there is a corridor with ogive style construction running through the length of the building. Off this corridor are two small chambers with ogive roofs. The corridor ends in an open air courtyard from where steps lead to the upper level which is walled and has access to a parapet. From the tower it is reputedly possible to see all the important nuraghe within the district, but you would need to know where to look to do so. The car park for the site is located 1.5 kilometres north of the town of Tempio Pausania on highway SS133 towards Palau. There is a large car park by the sign for the site on the main road and then it is a 400 metre walk to the site along a signposted lane running east. At the site there is a small information and ticket office and toilets. Around the base of the nuraghe there is a pleasant, short nature walk.

Note: Exact GPS positional from hand held GPS device.
