Unless megalithic tombs were recognized as cultural heritage by many authorities then, approximately 95% were completely destroyed in the 19th century (in Germany). Often they were blown to pieces to use the fragments as building material or they were destroyed by farmers when clearing their fields.
In this particular case complete destruction fortunately was stopped by authorities but many stones esp. the roof stones are removed. Nevertheless the chamber could be partly reconstructed from the remaining stones. There is a lot of undergrowth (March 2008). Certainly this adds to the ambience, but makes it more difficult to have a clear view at tombs remains during spring- and summertime.
