The Gezelinquelle is a well in Leverkusen (North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany). It is believed that the well was venerated as far back as prehistoric times. Today many people still think the water has healing powers.

According to legend, the Blessed Gezelinus von Schlebusch put his crook into the ground and made the water spring. Many people visited the well in Medieval times. The first church, built above the well, was destroyed in the Thirty Years War. The second church building was torn down in 1868 because it had become a dangerous structure. The recent church was built on the foundation wall of the second church building.

Because of groundwork operations in the surrounding area in 1957, the groundwater ran deeper and does not now spring through its former well exit site in the church. Therefore, the water now has to be pumped up several times a day. Many visitors still collect the water of the well in bottles. The newborn children of this parish are baptized with the water from the Gezelinquelle well.

It is believed that the well was venerated as far back as prehistoric times. Today many people still believe that the water has healing powers and collect it in bottles. Indeed, official analysis has confirmed that the water is healthy. It contains an optimal amount of Boron. According to German standards, it contains too much Carbon Dioxide and therefore should be drunk some time after the collection of the water.

Thank you for putting this site on the frontpage.

The water from the Gezelinquelle well can be collected each day between 08:30 - 11:00 am and 01:00 - 06:30 pm (Exception: start at 09:15 am on Friday). It can be collected from the outside from an opening in the Northern wall of the Gezelinkapelle.
