Standing Stone (Langer Stein) in Rhineland-Palatinate.
Originally, the stone was but about 3 km south of Prüm in the district on the Schlossheck, hence its (alternative) name.

In 1933, a plaque was affixed to commemorate the memory of five inhabitants of the region who, under the napoleonic yoke, had refused to be incorporated into the French army.

The text read :
In Treue zum Vaterlande fielen hier für die Freiheit der Heimat Matthias Meyer aus Lissendorf Thiery Link aus Feusdorf Michel Heintz aus Landscheid Matthias Billen aus Landscheid Thiery Laurens aus Bewingen Sie wurden erschossen auf Befehl Napoleons I. am 23. Januar 1810.

TRANSLATION :
In fidelity to the fatherland fell here for the freedom of the homeland Matthias Meyer from Lissendorf, Thiery link from Feusdorf, Michel Heintz from Landscheid, Matthias Billen from Landscheid and Thiery Laurens from Bewingen. They were shot on the order of Napoleon I on 23 January 1810.

The plaque was thrown away by the French army in charge of that part of Germany after WWII, a shame --- and still awaits its replacement.

Weissenstein submitted by Alta-Falisa : The present "informative" board is not only strikingly misleading -- it is no replacement for the original plaque commemorating events of 1810. Photo : August 2016. (Vote or comment on this photo)
