Largely destroyed in 1849 this 4 capstone tomb is the only known megalithic site in the Province Friesland.

The ground plan of the chamber is still visible as the extraction pits of the orthostats were marked by low concrete implements in 1958 according to the results of van Giffen's excavation in 1922. The chamber measured approximately 5m x 2m.

In 1849 some remains of an oval barrow 11m x 9m, height 1m were preserved. The northern long side was built of 5 orthostats, while the southern longside was built of 4 orthostats with the entrance as in most cases (in this area) located in the middle of this longside, in this case between orthostat S2 and S3. Both narrow sides were built of one large orthostat each.

In 1996 the type of site was changed from 'hunebed' to 'steenkist (cist)'.

Thanks, of course you are right, but by the time the site was added to the database it was impossible to choose county "Friesland" as it did not appeared in the drop down menu of the database. On the other hand it was not possible to leave the county blank so I had to choose the available county "Drenthe" instead. Otherwise it would have been impossibe to create a site page.
That's why i added the following note to the description before (see above)
Note: New county needed: Friesland "Post" button disappeared when choosing "other (leave note)"
Obviously county "Friesland" now got added to the database and it's possible to select it. Thanks.
