Ancient Temple in Egypt

Ptolemeic Temple of Horus. Ritually connected to Dendara Temple of Hathor. The Mammisi was built by Ramses III. The temple, the second largest in Egypt, was found almost completely intact as it was covered with sand up to the capitals.
Edfu used to be called Edbu, which means fortified place.

It was probably the best preserved temple in Egypt as it was pretty much covered in sand and many of the reliefs escaped damage from Christians. The temple was symbolically linked to that of Hathor in Dendara. Boats would shuttle statues of the two "married" gods from one temple to an other. There are great reliefs of Horus defeating th...

Re: Idfu Temple of Horus by Anonymous on Monday, 06 November 2006
Hi,

I was just looking on Google Earth and I didn't find the temple at the location listed. It's actually next to the Idfu Mamisi which is a little bit further down (I visited it last week, that's how I knew).

Best regards,
Ming-Hua
