The Memphis museum, in the village of Mit-Rahina near Sakkara has a collection of statues and stelles, including a 13 meter limestone statue of Ramses II. The twin of this statue stands near the Cairo Train Station. The museum lies on the corner of a destroyed Temple of Knuhm.

Memphis was the Old Kingdom capital of Egypt under Djoser. It then declined and only came back to prominence under Ramses II.

It has been known as Hout-ka-Ptah, Men-Nefer-Pepi

The Greeks called it Mennofra. The city declined again after the foundation of Alexandria in 332 BCE.

Currently, the area is largely rural and agricultural and artifacts are discovered on occasion during building works.
