Ancient Temple in Lower Egypt (North)

Karanis, or "the Lord's Town", was one of the largest Greco-Roman cities in the Fayoum Oasis. It was founded in the third century BCE, by Ptolemy II Philadelphus, and was originally settled by his mercenaries. With a population of some 3,000 people, it continued to prosper for about seven centuries. It began to decline after the 4th and 5th centuries CE. The tempe appears to be the best preserved building in the town.
There is also a musuem at the site.
