Ancient Village or Settlement in Antalya Province, Turkey

Ancient Lukka city originally known as Parha at the time of the Hittites and was inhabited at least around 2000 BCE. These were a seafaring vassal state suspected of later turning on the Hittites around 1200 BCE and devastating the eastern Mediterranean as the Sea People, as noted by the Egyptians.

The later Hellenistic settlement originated at the time of Alexander the Great and was fortified by the Seleucids before reaching its peak under the Romans. The city boasts a tholos, baths, a theatre, a 234 metre stadium, among other ruins.

It is believed that there was also a small Artemis temple, which has not been dugout yet. The acropolis, is however taken up by more recent Byzantine buildings and the older ruins have not been prioritised yet.

At the time they lived in the plateau or acropolis directly over the Greco-Roman period town, as seen behind the columned street. Unfortunately, until recently, not much archaeology has been done on the pre-Helle...
