Chimera
Chimera submitted by davidmorgan : The Chimera's flaming breath. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Other Natural Feature in Antalya Province, Turkey

Flaming gases emitting from the rock. This site is associated with the legend of Bellerophon riding Pegasus and slaying the fire-breathing Chimera monster which fell to earth here. There is also a very ruined temple.

Chimera
Chimera submitted by h_fenton : Chimera at night (Olimpos/Olympos, Turkey). These particular flames are only upto 2 inches tall. Legend has it that you can't put the flames out, but certainly the small flames will go out if covered and not reignite on their own.

Chimera
Chimera submitted by h_fenton : One of the largest flames of the Chimera at night (Olimpos/Olympos, Turkey). This particular flame is no more than a metre tall most flames are only a few inches. In ancient times the flame are thought to have been larger. I was at the site for about twenty minutes and the flame sizes varied quite a lot during that period.

Really nice atmosphere here the other night with the full moon. About a hundred people sitting around the flames enjoying the vibe - felt quite primordial.
