la Pierre Clouise
la Pierre Clouise submitted by loz : I visited Pierre Clouise last year, this is the largest piece of a huge construction, there are other pieces scattered over apprx. 50 meter area in no particular arrangent. (Vote or comment on this photo)
The Pierre Clouise is probably the best example of a "pierre à glissade" or "sliding stone" in France. It is registered as Historical monument since 1889.

It is a stone associated with legends and several kinds of fertility rites and has given a lot of work for the Church to try to make people abandon them...

Large 8 Meter long block on an incline used in fertility rites, 1 Km North East from town and 200 Meters west of D973

Conclusion :
I would suggest you to create a new type of prehistoric use of rocks :
"Marriage stones" or "stones with fertility rites" seems also OK, but of course, the origin of the fertility rituals, if very ancient, can't be proved before the Celts...
That's the reason why I had rather chosen "sliding stones" (pierre à glissades) or "ritual stones"...

Hello !

Well, here comes the same remark than the one about la Pierre à Glissade du Gros Mahaux :
"A sliding stone (or sliding rock) is a megalith that is the object of a fertility belief that, for a woman, to slide from top to bottom is a rite to heal or prevent infertility . Most of the time, the rite specifies that she must remove her panties to do so. Other times, it is the wedding in the year that is promised ...
The stone, natural or not, must have a sufficient inclination and size for the slide.
_ According to wikipedia, which quotes 14 for France.
For my part, I have spotted a score of them for now ..."

The Pierre Clouise is probably the best example of a "pierre à glissade" or "sliding stone" in France. It is registered as Historical monument since 1889. It is altogether a stone with legends and several kinds of fertility rites and has given a lot a work for the Church to make people abandon them...

In answer to loz, this stone has never been part of any kind of construction... other than that of many legends !
