Histria
Histria submitted by mfrincu : Ancient Roman columns some of them intact. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Histria is an ancient settlement founded by the Greek colonists in the 7th century BC on the shores of the Black Sea. Nowadays it is located on the shores of lake Sinoe, formed after the retreat of the sea. During the 5th century the first coins were made.

In 30 AD the city came under Roman power who built temples and public baths. The 4th century AD marked the appearance of several paleo-Christian basilicas.

The city was invaded by the Avars and Slavs in the 7th century AD.
