About 25 km South of Alūksne, along road P.43, a marker stone stands at the start of the gravel road leading to Jaunanna. It doesn't have any particular name ; Pagasts means Parish.

It may be a decorative stone, but it would then make a rather grandiose entrance to a smallish hamlet, about 1 km from here. I'm rather inclined to think that the stone was used in the past as a landmark, and has therefore always been at this spot (since the last ice-age, that is...).
It is well known that modern roads were built on previous earth roads.

The photo has been carefully framed, the angle equally chosen and the lighting is just right, I immodestely think. May I wish that no "Street View" will ever "supplement" (spoil) this peaceful view ?
