Puntuko akmuo
Puntuko akmuo submitted by Alta-Falisa : On a sunny Sunday afternoon, it takes some patience to capture the memorial with nobody on the photo. 21 June 2015. (Vote or comment on this photo)
The most famous, most visited, and second largest boulder in Lithuania.

A boulder converted in a memorial to the pilots Steponas Darius (1896-1933) and Stasys Girėnas (1893-1933) who attempted and nearly succeeded a transatlantic flight from New York to Kaunas (LT). Alas, they crashed in Poland, a few hundreds km before reaching Lithuania. They are now national heroes.

The wreckage of their aircraft, the Lituanica, is exhibited in the Military Museum of Kaunas ; a replica can be seen in the departure hall of VNO (Vilnius airport). Several banknotes, stamps were issued with the portrait of the two pilots. They are buried in the military cemetery of Kaunas. Nearly every town, large or small, has a street to their names.
