Temple of Hephaestos submitted by AlexHunger : Classic 5th century temple also known as the Theseon, after Theseus, since the midle ages when the pagan gods were forgotten. Ancient Temple in Crete

Classic 5th Century BCE temple dedicated to the ancient metalurgy god, Hephaestos. It is the Greek temple in the best conditions still remaining. In the middle Ages the temple was called Theseion, after the hero Theseus, as the original purpose had been forgotten. The temple did serve as a christian church after the abolition of paganism.

The temple is located within the Roman agora just below the Acropolis.
