Håkøya submitted by kenntha88 : The almost perfect remains of a house site from iron age! It is well-preserved because of the low vegetation. The walls are easy visible! It is about 6 metres across. (Vote or comment on this photo)
This site consists of a small settlement from the Iron/viking age. It consists of three house sites, about 7-8 metres in length and about 4 metres across. There are also two smaller boat houses, about 7 metres in length, and one very well-preseved burial mound, about 12 metres across and 1 metre in height, a very nice round profile and the small "ditch" around its sides is also visible.

It very well-preserved and is one of the most easily recognisable sites I have visited, because of the very low vegetation! There are no trees nearby, and it is just some low moss vegetation, so that makes the site well-worth a visit!

It is located on a small hill just after the bridge over to the small Island of Håkøya. The town of Tromsø is visible to the east, and it is a good view over the sound between the Island Kvaløya and the Tromsø Island.
