Museum in Auckland, New Zealand. Located in Auckland Domain with marvelous views across Auckland City and its harbour.

Auckland War Memorial Museum records the history of New Zealand and the South Pacific. It contains excellent displays featuring early Polynesian settlement across the Pacific and has extensive Maori displays. For prehistorians it is interesting to note the similarity of the pre European contact Maori artifacts (such as stone adzes and axes) and defensive hillfort (pa) sites to those seen in Europe in the Neolithic and Iron Ages. Similar problems found similar solutions on opposite sides of the world albeit in different eras. The lighting is subdued so my photographs are less than perfect.
