This is not actually a proven archaeological site, but there are old tales and legends about this place that connects it to a historical importance.
The site istelf is a mountainside going straight down into the sea from a height of about 300-400 meters above sea level. It looks really impressive seen from the road.
The old tales tells us about the Sami people in the ancient times, when they started their yearly wanderings from the coast to the inland, they used to throw the old and sick and those who could not make the march out over the cliff edge and into the sea! The name Daumannvikskaret means "dead man's bay" and is supposed to have obtained its name from these old tales.
But it is not known for certain that these tales are true or even are based in reality, and the historical importance of this site must be speculative.
