Ancient Village or Settlement in Troms

The Grunnfarnes stone age settlement consists of no less than 11 round and oval-shaped stone age housing remains. Today they are visible as round or oval depressions in the ground. They are from the younger stone age (around 3000-2000BC).

Some of the housings have been excavated, large amounts of flint have been found. In one of the foundation marks there is visible two dividing walls forming a cross so the round housing have been divided into four rooms.

Such well-preserved stone age settlements are rare. The low moss vegetation and spread out small trees makes them easy to recognize and photograph. Two of the housings have been lost in later years because of the sandbank they have been buildt upon have been washed away by the nearby small river.

The site is just close to a later iron age settlement, I choosed to divide them into two site pages simply because of the gap in time from when they probably were in use. Information signs have been placed on the nearby parking lot.
