Lødingen
Lødingen submitted by kenntha88 : The rock carving of the raindeer is probably the most well-preserved and beautiful carving I have seen of that type. (Vote or comment on this photo)
This site consists of 5 round depressions with remains of walls, probably from as early as older stone age. They are in a place with very low exposure to weather, erosion and human interference.

The site consists also of a beautifully preserved stone carving of a reindeer in full size. It is the same technique used as in Leiknes, that the stone is grinded and not carved. It is a very special technique only known from 6 different places in northen Norway, and it believed to be from the early stone age, about 5000 - 7000 BC.

Apart form the well preserved carving, there are further carvings at this site: another Reindeer, a Fish and an Elk. These carvings are more weathered.

May you check the coordinates? Obviously they are incorrect, as they mark a location on the sea some kilometres southwest of Lødingen.

Great photo of the carving!

ohh, I was sure I had the right coordinates, I use google earth to get the coordinates, however I think I might have mistyped the coordinates.

This should be the accurate ones:

    15.532899

    Thanks for letting me know!!
