This stone is quite a little mystery! It is believed to be a sacrificial site, but can also have had other purposes. What makes it different from the sami sacrificial sites, apart from the location is that it has some strange carvings on its surface.
It is located inside a private garden, and when I asked the owner of the house for permission to photograph it, he was not aware of the stones value as a historical monument before I told him.
It is a cube-shaped boulder with flat sides, one of them is turned up and forms a flat surface upwards, like a table. It has a carving of a huge square on the top, about 50cm across, with smaller lines in each corner crossing the larger square. In the centre of the large square, there is a large circular carving like a bowl.
There are known three separate stones of this type from Norway, but the other two have been lost.
This stone's original function or what culture or dating is unknown. Does anyone have an idea/theory?
Note: Nordland county
