Syracuse Archaeological Park submitted by pab : Inside the cave! The surface of the cave showed the lines of workings, so it isn't a natural cave, but one formed by quarrying. The photo doesn't really show it, but the guide talked us through the progressive layers into the seam the slaves were quarrying.
