Kakunodate, in Honshū, Japan might be the most well-known remain of the buke-yashiki (samurai residence) town, many tourists visit in mid April to early May to appreciate the beautiful weeping cherry blossoms in its streets. It also has a number of attractive stone features.
Among the seven remaining houses, the Kawarada (河原田) family’s one has a dry landscape garden and the Ishiguro (石黒) family’s garden contains some stones hidden under the trees.
Both:Open 9:00-17:00 (-16:30 in winter), admission 500 Japanese yen (2024 price). Municipal site in English.
