Hillfort in Bohemia
Despite its different location, situated on the top of the steep hill on the other side of the Břežany valley, hillfort Šance was an organic part of the huge complex of the Celtic oppidum Závist. The hill area of 15 ha was strongly fortified during the first century BC. The south side was naturally protected because of inaccessible rocky terrain. Huge earthen ramparts with additional palisade was constructed to protect access from the north and east. Remains of ditches, ramparts and artificial mounds can be seen till these days.
