(Source: Wikipedia Japan)

One of the largest scallop shell kofun (tumulus) in Japan, it has with a small front passage attached to a circular tomb with a total length of 82 meters, a diameter of 66 meters, and a height of 11 meters . An excavation study was conducted in 1897 ( Meiji 30), and a sarcophagus was found. A large amount of burial goods found at this time was collected at the Imperial Museum (later Tokyo National Museum ).

A horseshoe shaped moat, empty of water, surrounds the mound .

The kofun contained four burial coffins, armour including a headpiece, shoulder shell, numerous swords, over 25 iron rings, iron sickles, copper mirror (inward flower sculpture). Also excavated were stone imitation swords and hand axes, 30 or more vertical combs, 2000 or more beads, arrow quivers.

Swords were classified into 14 formats and served as indicators of the tomb's 5th century AD dating.

These findings are summarized in a report by Motoichi Goto in 1936 (Showa 11).

It is a historical site of Tokyo and it is also Setagaya City ruins Number 127
