Carving in Honshū
In front of the community hall of Honmura village there stand several stone monuments of folklore religion. Among them a stone tablet is preserved in a shed and some strange marks are inscribed on it. Some people seriously believe that these are one of ancient Japanese characters before the import of Chinese character. But these characters are often resemble Korean Hangul alphabet and only appeared in documents after mid Edo era (circa 18 C).
