An example of the 2nd stage of Japanese Buddhist pagodas after the pyramids of the 1st stage.
The locals believe that this tower is a tomb or a donation of King Ashoka (BC304-232) of ancient Indian Maurya Kingdom who propagated the Buddhism.
In fact this pagoda is in ancient Korean Baekje style, the area around this temple was a colony of Baekje immigrants.
The tip and surrounding small towers are additions of later period.
Admission 400 Japanese Yen, open 9:00-17:00 (-18:00 May to October).
