Stone pyramid in Honshū

Around Katsuō-ji (勝尾寺) temple, 8 Buddhist statuettes (4 Wisdom Kings and 4 Heavenly Kings) in ceramic pots were buried as the protecting amulets for the boundary of the temple's precinct (now they are preserved in the treasury of the temple). Those statuettes were supposed to be produced and buried in medieval age (circa 1230). On the burial point, strange stone setting like pyramid were placed, some scholars point out the similarity between the Buddhist proto-pagodas in the 8th century : Zutō, Dotō and Kumayama Iseki.

"Hatten Ishigura" means 'stone vaults for 8 heavenly kings'. The Wisdom Kings should be 5 in total, so it is rumored that statuette of Acala is hidden under the octagonal prism stone called Yōgō-ishi (影向石) in the precinct of Katsuō-ji temple.

Visiting all the sites might be a healthy hiking (10km, 3-4hours).
