Museum in Shikoku. Tokushima prefectural museum commemorates an archaeologist-ethnologist Ryūzō TORII (鳥居龍蔵) who traveled throughout Japan, East Asia and even South America.
He found many dolmens at the Korean peninsula and the Chinese continent and became a 'dolmenmania', then declared the discoveries of Japanese dolmens but most of his 'Japanese dolmens' are natural outcrops or ritual tables not burial chambers. He and his wife were buried under a dolmen-shaped tomb stone in the backyard of this museum on a hill.
In 2010, this eccentric building was closed and the new museum re-opend inside of Tokushima Prefectural Museum 15km away (34.03994N,134.52707E).
Open 9:30-17:00, closed on Mondays, days around the New Years Day(open on the New Years Day). Admission 200 Japanese Yen (Free on national holidays).
