Museum in Brandenburg, Berlin. The "Neues Museum" is one of the most important museums in Germany for Archaeology.

The Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection, the Museum of Prehistory and Early History and various artefacts from the Collection of Classical Antiquities have been given a new home in the Neues Museum. It´s also the new home for the famous bust of Nefertiti and for one of the three known Golden ceremonial hats with circular ornamentation of the Bronze Age.

The museum's website provides information on the collection, opening times, and tickets.

The old "Museum für Vor- und Frühgeschichte" is now part of the new "Neues Museum" Building at the Museum Island (Museumsinsel). Neues Museum website (English and German.)

Note: Viewers to the latest madcap episode of Doctor Who may not realise that Queen Nefertiti did rather mysteriously disappear from the historical record. The famous bust on which the character was modelled is in this museum in Berlin

The find spot of the bust of Queen Nefertiti by Andy B on Sunday, 09 September 2012
(User Info | Send a Message)
Al Amarna, the Location of Akhenaten's Palace. Not much remains other than an Arch, some foundations and some unfinished, yet decorated tombs as the palace was built of mud bricks. Artifacts, in particular Nefertiti's bust, were taken to the Berlin Egyptology museum.

Doctor Who and the Disappearance of Queen Nefertiti by Andy B on Sunday, 09 September 2012
(User Info | Send a Message)
Viewers to the latest madcap episode of British TV institution Doctor Who may not realise that the storyline about Queen Nefertiti was inspired by historic events - she did rather mysteriously disappear from the historical record.

The Disappearance of Queen Nefertiti

Twelve years into the Amarna Period Nefertiti disappears. She could have simply died of a terminal illness; however, many refuse to think so. Little is known about her disappearance due the damage caused by Akhenaten’s successors. It seems they wanted no memory of his existence and that included memories of Queen Nefertiti. Everything was destroyed or buried in the sands of Egypt. Though very little evidence has survived, it has still sparked theories as to how she disappeared...

An entire room is set aside for Nefertiti in the Berlin Egyptian Museum. This is room 2.10 which features the famous bust of Queen Nefertiti on which the character in Doctor Who's latest episode Dinosaurs on a Spaceship was modelled.

Egyptian queen - chief wife of Pharaoh Amenhotep IV who took the name Akhenaten

Known for: appearance in Egyptian art, especially the famous bust discovered in 1912 at Amarna; part she probably played in the religious revolution centering on monotheistic worship of the sun disk, Aten
Dates: 14th century BCE, Eighteenth Dynasty.

From the museum website:
As of Monday, 4 June 2012, the Museum of Prehistory and Early History is scheduled to close its temporary exhibition area 'Stone Age to Pre-Roman Iron Age’ on level 3 (upper floor) of the Neues Museum. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

The closure is in preparation for the temporary exhibition 'Russians & Germans. 1000 Years of Art, History and Culture’, which will be on display on level 3 of the Neues Museum from October 2012 until the middle of January 2013. This will be followed by the installation of the new part of the Museum of Prehistory and Early History’s permanent exhibition in the section 'Stone Age to Pre-Roman Iron Age’, which is currently due to open at Easter 2014.
