Chambered Cairn in Kyūshū
A site behind a shrine on a cape of small island called Kuroshima (黒島) which adjoins to the Ojika-jima (小値賀島) island in the East China Sea.
This site is a group of 36 rock-tile roofed burial pits which are mainly distributed in Kagoshima prefecture. Some of the pits have large capstone like dolmens. Some archaeologists suppose that this type of burial chamber is derived from dolmens, using rock-tiles instead of huge cap stone. So this site may show the stages of evolution : dolmen to rock-tile burial pit.
