Barrow Cemetery in Hedmark

This site consists of at least 34 burial cairns, one round barrow, 5 marks after housings and 5 stone settings. The whole area is now a forest with smaller leaf trees but the ground is relatively flat and with limited vegetation in some areas so most of the sites are easy to see though they appear more or less like a number of stone heaps or collections of stones. The area is now a public park or hiking area with several footpaths crossing the area.

Most of the cairns have round shapes and some few have oval shapes. Most of the cairns are made of rocks around 10-20cm wide but also some have much larger stones in them. The cairns have a diameter of 5 to 10 metres and from 0.5 to 1,5 metres in height but some of them can be hard to see the height since they have been desturbed in later years and rocks are spread out around them and some have large craters inside them.

The cairn with the most preserved shape is 10 metres in diameter and 1 metre in height. It is in the north east part of the cemetery and is called "kolhaugen" since a large amount of charcoal was found in it. Cremation burial?
The housing marks are 5,6 and 12 metres long but with the vegetation it was impossible to find them. The stone settings are all triangular in shape with the sides around 4 metres in length. It was difficult to separate the stone settings from the cairns.
