Promontory Fort / Cliff Castle in Kent
Twin towers of the medieval church and ruins of Roman fort built in the early 3rd century. This is one of the earliest forts built against Saxon raids on the ‘Saxon Shore’. It later became the site of an Anglo-Saxon monastery before becoming the parish church. The towers were built in a remodelling of the church in the 12th century.
