Author Dunkin (1856) describes a pool with Druid associations. The exact site is not clear, and it may have been at some time known as Maiden’s Well. Considering the Victorian Druid vogue, the claims of this pool should be treated with suspicion. He does not clearly describe its purpose, believing it to be associated with druidic practices in the ‘Oak Groves’. He states as follows:
“.western end of the Medway on lofty ground between the rivers Ebbsfleet and Darenth, in a part of the extensive Swanscomb forest, bore the name of Stone park Wood. It lies in the south eastern extremity of this position.”
