Pyramid / Mastaba in Hidalgo.
A medium sized 4 stepped pyramid with stairs, originaly built by the Teotihucan culture between 100 BCE to 150 CE, after which the site was abandoned. It was later re-occupied by the Aztecs who probably built one of their temples on top.

This is a medium sized 4 stepped pyramid with stairs, originaly built by the Teotihucan culture between 100 BCE to 150 CE, after which the site was abandoned for a while. Until the Spanish conquest, it was later re-occupied by the Aztecs who probably built one of their temples on top. The nearby small town was a Toltec settlement.
The site was researched in the early 1980s, about the time I photographed it in 1982. As it's off the beaten track for the usual tourists, the site is usually uncrowded and quite calm. You can get an excellent top view by climbing the small hill just south of the pyramid.
There are traces of other ruins in the area.
