stonetracker visited on 1st Feb 2024 - their rating: Cond: 4 Amb: 4 Access: 4 Site remains as described. The only change I noticed was the tunnel leading to the Civil War magazine in the mound next to the river has been bricked up and blocked.

Chickasaw Heritage Park
Chickasaw Heritage Park submitted by AKFisher : This is a really well formed platform mound, one of two at the site, in downtown Memphis, Tennessee next to the Mississippi River. It is thought by some to be the site where Hernando de Soto first saw the Mississippi River. Chickasaw Heritage Park is a 17-acre park including Native American earth mounds. Believed to be the fortress of Chickasaw Chief Chisca. From the site's historical marker: "The Chisca mound next to the river was utilized during the Civil War as an artillery redoubt and magazine inside federal Fort Pickering covering the site of the original Fort Pickering. The top of the mound was excavated for the stronghold in 1863.
