A Chenes Maya city, originally dating from the Middle/Late Pre-Classic (800 BCE). Built on a natural platform of 35 to 40 metres high which was levelled and terraced on top, the heart of the site is formed by a series of interconnecting courtyards and plazas.

The urban sprawl covers 9 sq. km. One of the few settlements of the Chenes region which has smooth and sculptured stelae, 8 of which have been found by the South Plaza with dates from 750 to 889 CE.

The 35km of potholes took me an hour and I almost gave up at one point but there were some short sections where it got easier - tempting me on. It was the only site I managed that day from my hotel in Ticul. The track to Tabasqueño was worse in parts but only 4km.

Tried to Visit here in Feb 07 but the road was in awful condition, time & the good old Mexican potholes forced us to abandon it. Damn! - Looks we missed an interesting site.
