Ancient Village or Settlement in

Ruins of San Andres are one of the most important archaeological sites in El Salvador. Most of the buildings are dated for Late Classic period (600 - 900 AC), however first traces of occupation come from 900 BC. The largest structures are concentrated around Gran Plaza - among them there is Acropolis and Estructura 5 known also as "La Campana". The monumental centre of San Andres covers area of 20 ha.

The archaeological site is opened to the public, however it needs further excavations (so far mainly temples from Classic period were properly excavated, the research in residential area was very limited).
